Happy Birthday to IMCA and Holiday wishes to friends and members!

IMCA turned 27 years old on 12/12/12, and on behalf of Investment Management Consultants Association® (IMCA®), we’d like to take a few moments to express our gratitude to our current members, volunteers, industry friends, and corporate clients.

Without your support and participation over the years, IMCA would not be able to address its mission of delivering premier investment and wealth management credentials and world class education. Thanks to the exceptional commitment of our 8,800 members who believe in and champion the value of lifelong learning, and the hours of work put in by IMCA’s 175 volunteers and 31 staff, IMCA administered the highest quality programs, publications, and standards in 2012.

IMCA as an organization has experienced a 45 percent increase in membership over the past five years. Collectively, IMCA’s Annual Conference, four specialty conferences, and eight Best of IMCA advanced workshops hosted 3,970 individuals. IMCA’s conference committee volunteers put together the best conferences our industry has to offer. If you’ve never attended an IMCA event and wonder whether that bold claim is warranted, you should consider attending the 2013 Annual Conference in Seattle (April 28-May 1, 2013). If any attendee doesn’t think it’s one of the best conferences they’ve seen, we’ll return their registration fee.

Throughout 2012, dozens of IMCA volunteers and an amazing staff of certification experts worked tirelessly toward protecting and advancing the integrity of the Certified Investment Management Analyst® (CIMA®) certification. Early in 2012, the University of Chicago Booth School of Business joined The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania as a registered education provider for CIMA certification. In addition, 2012 saw significant enhancements to our disciplinary review and enforcement procedures.

IMCA’s CIMA certification is still the only financial services credential in the U.S. to meet international standards for personnel certification (ANSI/ISO/IEC 17024). In September, IMCA’s government relations committee hosted an educational event in Washington D.C. for regulators, legislative staff and industry organizations highlighting the importance of quality, accredited certifications in financial services. IMCA’s Certified Private Wealth Advisor® (CPWA®) certification ranks grew by 40 percent in 2012 as more advisors sought an advanced credential to help them more effectively serve their high-net-worth clients. A job analysis facilitated by IMCA’s Wealth Management Committee resulted in a body of knowledge for the distinct practice of private wealth advice. Nearly 400 practicing wealth management professionals identified the most essential knowledge and skills of an advanced private wealth advisor. Finally, our valued partnerships with Barron’s and Worth magazines featured IMCA advertising in 2012, generating more than 1.6 million impressions in these high-end consumer publications. On the earned media front, IMCA and its credentials were mentioned almost 300 times in publications that reach consumers. Coverage in the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Smart Money, and Yahoo! Finance generated nearly 36 million impressions.

IMCA believes in the power of professionalism. We look forward to more years as positive and eventful as 2012. Have a safe and happy holiday season, and enjoy the time with friends and family. We’ll see you in 2013!
