Why the United States Will Continue to Dominate the 21st Century

As we complete the first decade of this new century, there is mounting evidence that the United States might have to relinquish its 100-year domination of the global economy. At the start of the 20th Century—the “American Century” in the fabled words of Time-Life Publishing co-founder Henry Luce—the United States pushed past the United Kingdom and the rising upstart Germany to secure the top spot in the league tables. While there were several challengers to that position in subsequent generations (Germany again, the Soviet Union, Japan), none were able to dislodge the United States. But now, with a very mature domestic economy and rapidly expanding Chinese and Indian economies (among other emerging nations), many have concluded that our long run at the top is over. But is it? Dr. Tiffany expands on this theme and shows why he believes that the contest is far from over, and why he thinks the United States will continue to dominate the coming century.
