CPWA Renewal Requirements and Guidelines

Following initial certification and authorization to use the CPWA® and Certified Private Wealth AdvisorSM marks, the CPWA designation must be renewed every two years. By successfully completing IMCA’s designation renewal requirements, CPWA professionals demonstrate to the public that they are individuals who have voluntarily agreed to meet high standards of professionalism.

There are three requirements to renew the CPWA designation:

    1. Complete and report a minimum of 40 hours of continuing education (CE) credit, including a minimum of 20 CPWA curriculum core topic hours and two ethics hours. NOTE—CPWA designees may monitor their designation renewal period deadline and track their CE by logging in to the "My IMCA" portion of the Web site and clicking on the "CPWA Details" link.
    2. Pay a designation renewal fee for the next two-year designation renewal period. This fee is $100 for IMCA members, $500 for nonmembers, or $495 for those who wish to join IMCA or renew their membership
    3. Sign and submit your continued adherence to IMCA’s Code of Professional Responsibility and Rules and Guidelines for Use of the Marks, as well as disclose any federal/state regulatory actions or complaints.

IMCA sends several reminders to CPWA professionals in the months before their designation renewal period expiration date. For full details regarding designation renewal requirements, download the CPWA Designation Renewal Requirements guide by clicking here.
