IMCA Announces Hiring of New Executive Director
Sean Walters will begin serving in the role on March 1, 2010

DENVER—January 11, 2010—Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA^®) announced the hiring of Sean R. Walters, CAE, as the organization’s new executive director at its 2010 New York Consultants Conference earlier this morning. Mr. Walters currently serves as IMCA’s deputy executive director and will commence the role of executive director on March 1, 2010.

Current IMCA executive director, Edythe "Dede" Pahl, announced her plans to retire in July 2009 and the IMCA board of directors hired Mr. Walters after conducting a nationwide executive search. “The board is excited to see Sean continue the momentum that Dede created in establishing IMCA as the premier provider of advanced investment consulting and wealth management credentials,” said John Granzow, CIMA^®, IMCA’s president.

Mr. Walters is a 19-year veteran of association management, and has served 13 years as a senior executive in financial services associations. “His extensive background in building membership value, expanding knowledge and content offerings, and enhancing institutional relations and market development has been vital to IMCA’s growth over the past two and a half years, and will serve us well as we move into the next decade,” commented Mr. Granzow.

Mr. Walters has served IMCA as deputy executive director since June 2007. Prior to joining IMCA, he was managing director of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and director of member services for its predecessor International Association for Financial Planning (IAFP). He was part of the staff leadership team that implemented a merger in 2000 between the IAFP and the Institute of Certified Financial Planners to form FPA.

Mr. Walters received a BA in History from the University of Arizona and earned an MBA from the University of Indianapolis. He has earned the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation from the American Society of Association Executives, and is a graduate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute of Organization Management.
