Richard Bernstein is chief executive officer and chief investment officer of Richard Bernstein Advisors LLC, which he founded in 2009. The firm utilizes a unique top-down approach to investing, focusing on macro trends rather than individual stock selection. Mr. Bernstein has more than 30 years’ experience on Wall Street, most recently as the chief investment strategist at Merrill Lynch & Co. Before that, he held positions at E.F. Hutton and Chase Econometrics/IDC.

A much-noted expert on equity, style, and asset allocation, Mr. Bernstein was voted to Institutional Investor magazine's annual “All-America Research Team” 18 times, and is one of only 49 analysts inducted into the Institutional Investor “Hall of Fame.” He was also twice named to both Fortune magazine's “All-Star Analysts” and to Smart Money magazine's “Power 30,” and was a member of Registered Rep's “Ten to Watch” for 2012. His book Style Investing: Unique Insight into Equity Management is widely viewed as the seminal book on style-oriented investment strategies. He donates the profits from that and his other book, Navigate the Noise: Investing in the New Age of Media and Hype, to charity. Mr. Bernstein is co-chair of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation endowment's investment committee (~$1.8 billion) and sits on the Hamilton College endowment's investment committee (~$700 million); he is a trustee of both institutions. He is an adjunct professor of finance at the NYU/Stern Graduate School of Business, and is a member of the Journal of Portfolio Management's Advisory Committee. He earned an MBA in finance with Beta Gamma Sigma distinction from New York University and a BA in economics from Hamilton College.

Michael Crook is the Head of Portfolio and Planning Research at UBS. In that capacity he spearheads research efforts around strategic asset allocation, life cycle investing, and financial planning. Prior to UBS, he worked as a Senior Investment Strategist at Barclays and Lehman Brothers and managed discretionary portfolios of traditional and alternative assets at both firms. He is the author of numerous academic and professional articles including publications in the Journal of Wealth Management, the Journal of Investing, and the Journal of Index Investing and is a former adjunct professor of economics at Marymount Manhattan College. He's also a reviewer for the Journal of Investing and the Journal of Index Investing. Michael is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA).  Michael earned a B.S. in consumer economics at the University of Georgia and a M.A. in economics at New York University.

Daniel Kahneman is a senior scholar at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. He is also Professor of Psychology and Public Affairs Emeritus at the Woodrow Wilson School, the Eugene Higgins Professor of Psychology Emeritus at Princeton University, and a fellow of the Center for Rationality at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Professor Kahneman is a member of the National Academy of Science, the Philosophical Society, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a fellow of the American Psychological Association, the American Psychological Society, the Society of Experimental Psychologists, and the Econometric Society. He has been the recipient of many awards, among them the Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award of the American Psychological Association (1982) and the Grawemeyer Prize (2002), both jointly with Amos Tversky, the Warren Medal of the Society of Experimental Psychologists (1995), the Hilgard Award for Career Contributions to General Psychology (1995), the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences (2002), the Lifetime Contribution Award of the American Psychological Association (2007), and the Presidential Medal of Freedom (2013). He earned a BS in psychology with a minor in mathematics from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a PhD in psychology from the University of California, Berkeley.

J. Kevin Kenny co-founded Emerging Sovereign Group in 2002 and is the fund’s Chief Investment Officer. Prior to co-founding ESG, Mr. Kenny had ten years of experience at Morgan Stanley. Mr. Kenny was Managing Director and Head of Global EM Debt Trading and Syndicate from 1996 to 2002, with additional oversight of Global EM Research from 1999 to 2002. Mr. Kenny was Head Trader of the Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia time zones. He was the Senior Risk Manager as Head of Global Trading since 1996, and assumed oversight of Emerging Market Research in 2000. Mr. Kenny graduated from Duke University in 1989 with a BA in Political Science. Mr. Kenny received an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1994.

Sallie Krawcheck is the owner of Ellevate (formerly known as 85 Broads), a professional women's networking organization that is committed to the economic empowerment of women globally. She has also teamed up with Pax World Management to offer an index fund called Ellevate Asset Management which focuses on companies where women make up a significant portion of officers and directors. Ms. Krawcheck’s involvement reflects her recognition of the power of diversity in driving economic growth, innovation, and financial returns. She is past president of Bank of America Global Wealth Management, including Merrill Lynch. Before that, she was chief executive officer and chairman for Citi Global Wealth Management, responsible for the Citi Private Bank, Citi Smith Barney and Citi Investment Research. During her time at Citi, she was also a member of the senior leadership committee and executive committee. As the only senior Wall Street executive to reimburse a portion of client losses for poorly performing products during the downturn and with her varied experiences as a senior manager, chief financial officer (CFO), and research analyst, she provides unique and powerful insider insights into financial services, wealth management, personal financial matters, and business management. A perennial on FORTUNE’S “Most Powerful Women” lists, she was one of TIME magazine’s “Global Business Influentials,” CNBC’s “Business Leader of the Future,” and Fast Company’s “100 Most Creative People in Business.” She earned an MBA from Columbia University and a BA/BS from the University of North Carolina.

Guggenheim Securities - Washington Research Group

Chris Krueger is a managing director and senior policy analyst at Guggenheim Securities - Washington Research Group.  He publishes the DC Download, which is a must-read daily for Wall Street Portfolio Managers who want a quick look at the top Washington stories and their impact on the capital markets.  Krueger covers DC macro, fiscal and tax policy, elections, and event-driven situations.  Krueger held similar positions at MF Global, Concept Capital, and Potomac Research Group. Earlier he worked for nearly four years on the Senior Staff of the House of Representatives. He has also worked on several local, state, and federal political campaigns across the country. Chris holds a B.A. from the University of Vermont and an M.A. from King’s College London in International Relations.

MBA, Casey Quirk

Jeffrey Levi has 12 years of industry experience and joined Casey Quirk in 2008. He oversees Casey Quirk’s Knowledge Center, the firm’s proprietary industry intelligence platform, leads the firm’s retail investment focus, and recently co-authored the whitepaper Retooling U.S. Intermediary Sales: New Advisor Targeting Strategies, published in May 2014. He graduated with a B.A., summa cum laude, in Economics from Ithaca College and received his M.B.A. from the Yale School of Management.

Michael A. Levi is the David M. Rubenstein senior fellow for energy and the environment at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), director of the Maurice R. Greenberg Center for Geoeconomic Studies, and director of the CFR program on energy security and climate change. He is an expert on climate change, energy security, arms control, and nuclear terrorism. Previously, Dr. Levi was a nonresident science fellow and a science and technology fellow in foreign policy studies at the Brookings Institution. Before that, he was director of the Federation of American Scientists’ Strategic Security Project. Dr. Levi is the author of The Power Surge: Energy, Opportunity, and the Battle for America’s Future and By All Means Necessary: How China’s Resource Quest is Changing the World (with Elizabeth Economy). His recent writings include studies of natural gas exports, the Canadian oil sands, and the global politics and economics of clean energy innovation. Dr. Levi has testified before Congress and presented expert scientific evidence to the National Academy of Sciences on climate change and on nuclear security. His essays have been published in Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, Nature, and Scientific American, among others. His op-eds have appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, and Financial Times. Dr. Levi earned a BSc (Hons.) in mathematical physics from Queen’s University (Kingston) and an MA in physics from Princeton University, where he studied string theory and cosmology. He earned a PhD in war studies from the University of London (King’s College), where he was the SS HRC William E. Taylor fellow.

Marc Odo served as Director of Research at Zephyr Associates. Marc was responsible for working with Zephyr clients to ensure Zephyr’s products answer their manager search and selection, reporting, research and asset allocation needs. Marc was also instrumental in developing and promoting next-generation risk measures.  Marc has spent his career in the financial space and therefore has extensive industry-specific experience.  Marc graduated from the University of Washington in 1996.

Justin Paperny, author of Lessons From Prison and Ethics in Motion, is a former investment executive who now uses his experiences to educate others on ethics and the perils associated with white-collar crime. Paperny has been a keynote speaker to academic and business audiences across the nation. Rather than speaking theoretically, he draws upon personal experiences to describe how an inattention to ethics can lead an individual down the path to crime, including imprisonment.

Sandra Pianalto served as the president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland from February 2003 through May 2014. During her tenure, Pianalto had both national and local leadership responsibilities. She participated in the formulation of U.S. monetary policy and led more than 1,000 employees in Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh in their work of conducting economic research, supervising financial institutions, and providing payment services to commercial banks and the U.S. government. 

Ms. Pianalto joined the Bank in 1983 as an economist in the Research Department. She was appointed assistant vice president of public affairs in 1984, vice president and secretary to the board of directors in 1988, first vice president and chief operating officer in 1993, and president in 2003.

Before joining the Bank, Ms. Pianalto was an economist at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington D.C. and served on the staff of the Budget Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Ms. Pianalto serves on the Board of Directors of Eaton Corporation and The J.M. Smucker Company and is Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals.  Ms. Pianalto is an Advisory Trustee and an Executive in Residence for The University of Akron.

Ms. Pianalto earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from The University of Akron and an MA in economics from The George Washington University. She is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and holds honorary degrees from The University of Akron, Baldwin-Wallace College, Cleveland State University John Carroll University, Kent State University, Notre Dame College, UrsulineCollege and The University of Toledo.

MBA, William Blair

Brian Singer is the head of the Dynamic Allocation Strategies team and also serves as a Portfolio Manager. Prior to joining William Blair in 2011, he was the head of investment strategies at Singer Partners, LLC. Previously, Brian was the head of global investment solutions and the Americas chief investment officer for UBS Global Asset Management, where he was a member of the UBS Group managing board and global asset management executive committee. Brian is a member of the CFA Institute board of trustees research foundation and formerly served as a board member and chair

of the CFA Institute board of governors. He serves on the endowment investment committee for Exeter College at Oxford University and is the chairman of the “Free to Choose Network,” which is inspired by the ideas of economist Milton Friedman. Brian serves as a member on the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago Foundation Board. In 1991 Brian co-wrote “Determinants of Portfolio Performance II: An Update” with Gary Brinson and Gilbert Beebower; this research serves as a landmark update to one of the pioneering studies on asset allocation. In 2009, Brian was the lead author of Investment Leadership and Portfolio Management, Wiley Publishing. Education: bachelor’s in economics, Northwestern University; M.B.A., University of Chicago.

PhD, Merrill Lynch

Margaret M. Towle recently joined the Bainbridge Island, Washington office of Merrill Lynch as a Managing Director where she will provide financial discretionary investment advisory services for a select number of endowments and ultra-wealthy families. Previously, she served as partner and managing director with HighTower Advisors. Prior to that, Dr. Towle was a managing director with Greycourt & Co., where provided financial advisory services to wealthy families and oversaw investment research across traditional and alternative asset classes. Prior to that, Dr. Towle was an executive vice president and chief investment officer for Northern Trust Global Advisors.

Dr. Towle was selected as a Fellow by the Kauffman Foundation to attend the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and was the recipient of IMCA’s 2006 Stephen L. Kessler Writing Award. She was nominated and recognized as “Top 50 Women in Wealth Management.”  Dr. Towle is a founding board member of the Center for Women and Democracy at the University of Washington, and an angel investor in 100 Women in Hedge Funds. Dr. Towle earned BA, MA, and PhD degrees from the University of Washington-Seattle. She began serving on IMCA’s board of directors in 2009. She is editor-in-chief of the Journal of Investment Consulting, and former chair of both IMCA’s Advisory Council and the Investments & Wealth Monitor editorial advisory board. She is a member of the investment committee of the YWCA Seattle/King/Snohomish.

Anne Walsh joined Guggenheim in 2007 and in her role as Assistant CIOFixed Income, she is head of the Portfolio Construction Group and Portfolio Management. She oversees more than $100 billion in fixed income investments including Agencies, Credit, Municipals, Residential Mortgage Backed Securities,

Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities and Asset Backed Securities. In her role, she is responsible for portfolio design and strategy, sector allocation and risk management for client portfolios, and conveying Guggenheim’s macro-economic outlook to Portfolio Managers and fixed income Sector Specialists. Ms. Walsh specializes in liability driven portfolio management. Cancellation/Transfer Policy
Cancellations for conference registration must be be sent via e-mail to conferences@imca.org. The registration fee less $50 cancellation fee will be refunded for cancellations postmarked or faxed by January 20, 2015. A 30-percent cancellation fee will be applied for cancellations received between January 20 and February 2, 2015. No refunds will be granted for cancellations received after February 2, 2015, or for nonattendance.

Your attendance at individual sessions will be automatically monitored using RFID technology as you enter each session.
