Carlos Gutierrez is the former chief executive officer (CEO) of Kellogg Company, a former U.S. secretary of commerce, and the former vice chairman of Citigroup’s Institutional Clients Group. The son of Cuban immigrants who began his career selling cereal to small grocers in Mexico City, he rose to become the youngest CEO in Kellogg’s 100-year history. Gutierrez joined Kellogg in 1975, spending nearly 30 years with the company. His climb through the ranks included years as executive vice president of Kelloggs’ Asia-Pacific. Faced with a global stagnation in cereal sales as CEO, he turned the company around by focusing on his “Volume to Value” strategy, allocating resources to higher-margin products. Fortune magazine dubbed him as “The Man Who Fixed Kellogg.” As secretary of commerce, Gutierrez was a core member of President Bush’s economic team, made it a top priority to open global markets for U.S. companies, and played a key role in the passage of CAFTA-DR, a landmark trade agreement that expanded opportunities for U.S. exports throughout Latin America. With his vast corporate success and extensive international perspective, he has a unique viewpoint on global business and the economy. After his time as secretary of commerce, he joined Citigroup as vice chairman of the Institutional Clients Group and a member of its Senior Strategic Advisory Group. He was also an advisor to Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign, a member of the Debt Reduction Task Force at the Bipartisan Policy Center, and the founder and chairman of Global Political Strategies, a strategic consulting service. Gutierrez served as co-chair for the Commission for Assistance to a Free Cuba and was a strong advocate of helping Cuba bring about its freedom from dictatorship. He was one of the point men working to pass comprehensive immigration legislation, and he left Citigroup to lead the creation of the SuperPAC Republicans for Immigration Reform. He is currently with the Albright Stonebridge Group and sits on the Time Warner board.

Mr. Mitnick and the Global Ghost Team™ now maintain a 100-percent successful track record of being able to penetrate the security of any system they are paid to hack into using a combination of technical exploits and social engineering. He also helps consumers—from students to retirees—learn how to protect their information and themselves from harm. His autobiography, Ghost in the Wires: My Adventures as the World's Most Wanted Hacker, a New York Times best seller, is now available in 15 languages.

Alvin Roth is the Craig and Susan McCaw Professor of Economics at Stanford University, the author of Who Gets What— and Why, and is a joint recipient (with Lloyd S. Shapley) of the 2012 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for his work in stable allocations and the practice of market design. Throughout his career, Professor Roth has applied economic theory to real-world, real-life problems and has pioneered new ways to use game theory to redesign previously ineffective, complex markets. His breakthrough work involves creating better matching markets—where people or organizations come together in a marketplace to select one or another, e.g., the college admissions process, job searches, or dating websites. Matching markets where participants must rank their preferences often end in disappointment or mismatches, but Professor Roth designed fair and equitable systems where preferences are honored more frequently and participants are placed in one of the programs of their choice—with outcomes that result in stable match ups.

Some of his achievements include reworking the National Resident Matching Program through which 25,000 medical school graduates apply to the hospital residency programs of their choice throughout the country; designing the high school preference program in New York that matches as many as 90,000 students to hundreds of high schools each year; designing matching programs for Boston’s primary school choice system, as well as for other large cities with significant student populations; and founder and designer of the New England Program for Kidney Exchange, which allows incompatible patient-donor pairs to swap for compatible kidneys. The program has resulted in 2,000 patients receiving kidneys who might otherwise never have located a compatible donor. His honors include the following: Fellow, American Academy of Arts and Sciences; member, National Academy of Sciences; Fellow, American Association of the Advancement of Science; and Fellow, Econometric Society. He earned a BS in operations research from Columbia University and MS and PhD degrees, both in operations research, from Stanford University.

The only recommended ways to book your hotel for the upcoming event are outlined above. In the event that you book your hotel room outside the normal IMCA housing block, IMCA will not be able to assist you if your room is unavailable or the “provider” turns out to be a scammer.

Booking a room in the IMCA room block is an important way to support the association and ultimately keep overall meeting costs as low as possible. Please help us to avoid potential penalties and control costs for future events by staying at the official hotel. If you are required to reserve a room through your company’s travel department, please forward the booking link to them so that you can reserve a room in IMCA’s room block.

Please note that conference attendees who do not make their reservation within the IMCA room block may not receive the same discounted rate or benefits.
